Effects of Thermosonication on Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella Enteritidis as A Function of pH and Temperature

چکیده
The effects of thermosonication and thermal treatment on Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella Enteritidis suspended in citrate-phosphate buffer of pH 3 to pH 6 were studied at 30, 40 and 50 °C. Application of ultrasound and low pH was found to enhance the inactivation of the pathogens; with the highest reduction of the pathogens was achieved by thermosonication at 50 °C in pH 3 buffer. Approximately 4 log cycle reduction of E. coli O157:H7 and 6 log cycle reduction of S. Enteritidis were obtained after being thermosonicated for 15 minutes at 50 °C.

Accelerating the Deactivation of Salmonella enterica Serovar Newport and Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Dairy Manure by Modifying pH or Temperature
To assess methods for control of disease-causing bacteria in animal manures prior to field application, we manipulated the temperature or adjusted pH of dairy manure to high (3.5 to 5) or low (10 to 12) values with aluminum sulfate or hydrated lime, and inoculated the manure with Salmonella enterica serovar Newport or Escherichia coli O157:H7, then incubated the manure at ambient temperature. A...
متن کاملEffect of Electron Beam Irradiation on Survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica serovar Thyphimurium in Minced Camel Meat during Refrigerated Storage
Background: Electron beam irradiation is one of the effective ways to control food-borne pathogens. We evaluated the effect of electron beam irradiation on survival of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica serovar Thyphimurium in minced camel meat during refrigerated storage. Methods: The meat samples were inoculated with E. coli O157:H7 and S. enterica serovar Thyphimurium and then...
متن کاملDevelopment of thermal inactivation models for Salmonella enteritidis and Escherichia coli O157:H7 with temperature, pH and NaCl as controlling factors.
The thermal inactivation of Salmonella enteritidis phage type 4 and Escherichia coli O157:H7 as affected by temperature (54.5-64.5 degrees C), pH (4.2-9.6 with HCl or NaOH) and NaCl concentration (0.5-8.5% w/w) was studied. Cell suspensions in modified tryptone soya broth were heated in a submerged-coil heating apparatus and survivors were enumerated on tryptone soya agar incubated aerobically....
متن کاملReduction of Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis in chicken manure by larvae of the black soldier fly.
Green fluorescent protein-labeled Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis were inoculated at 10(7) CFU/g into cow, hog, or chicken manure. Ten- or 11-day-old soldier fly larvae (Hermetia illucens L.) (7 to 10 g) were added to the manure and held at 23, 27, or 32 degrees C for 3 to 6 days. Soldier fly larvae accelerated inactivation of E. coli O157:H7 in chicken manu...
متن کاملFactors affecting compost tea as a potential source of Escherichia coli and Salmonella on fresh produce.
Compost tea (CT) is an unheated on-farm infusion of compost used as a spray or soil drench to promote plant growth and control foliar and root diseases. Because food safety involves all aspects from farm to fork, CT should meet basic microbiological criteria for water quality. This report describes the effects of two CT production processes, aerated and nonaerated, on growth and survival of foo...
